We are pleased to announce that Zoila Cardenas has been appointed by the Austin ISD Board of Trustees as the new principal of Harris Elementary School. Mrs. Cardenas previously served as an assistant principal at Wooten Elementary and Pecan Springs Elementary in Austin Independent School District. She has ten years of experience as a bilingual elementary teacher.
Mrs. Cardenas earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus on Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, a Master’s Degree in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
Mrs. Cardenas is student-centered and action-oriented. She has uncompromising, high expectations for all students, staff, parents, and herself. She passionately believes that all students can and will learn. She has a proven track record as a relational, servant leader who is collaborative and has an open-door policy.
Mrs. Cardenas believes in a team approach to leadership, and she is a strong proponent of building trust and community by using clear, consistent communication, as well as through welcoming parents and community to be an integral part of the school.
