Major Programs and Initiatives
The Harris Campus Improvement Plan will once again guide and provide an evaluation and monitoring instrument to gauge the effectiveness of our efforts. The Harris CIP will be used as a reference tool and will be revisited on a regular basis at parent meetings, Campus Advisory Council meetings, faculty meetings, grade level and vertical team meetings.
The Austin University Area and Austin North Metro Passport Rotary Clubs offer the Early Act First Knight character education program. Every 6 week the program focuses on one character trait that we integrate into our SEL lessons on campus. At the end of that time, we have an award ceremony where teacher in each class pick one student that best exemplified that trait in the last 6 weeks.
As one of the Austin Mayor's Healthiest Schools, along with our partners, we hope to encourage not only our scholars, but their families and teachers to have a healthy lifestyle. Coach and the CATCH committee strive to offer fun and healthy family nights as well as fun programs like Running club too.
As the newest member of the Neighborhood Longhorn Program many of our scholars will be able to attend University of Texas events and attend College fairs in alignment with our College Readiness goals. The program provides the opportunity to envision attending college through incentives and event scholarships based on academic achievement during their years at Harris. The program also provides UT students, volunteers and staff who tutor and mentor our bulldogs throughout the school year.
